Seth Rogen — What Makes Seth Rogen
At the ripe age of eighteen, Canadian born actor Seth Rogen graced the screen with his unique presence in the cancelled-too-soon Judd Apatow show, Freaks and Geeks. Since then, Seth Rogen has welcomed his brand of comedy to audiences in a variety of male genitalia jokes and drug jokes. Initially, these jokes nearly defined his career, but he has broken away from those typical roles and done more serious things with his life and career and that is what makes Seth Rogen Seth Rogen. He is not just another comedic hack that makes jokes about penises.
Freaks and Geeks
To talk about Seth Rogen, James Franco, or even Jason Segel without mentioning Freaks and Geeks is not only wrong, but also unjust. In addition, failure to acknowledge Judd Apatow with any of these three actors is immoral. Apatow gave life to these actors, but mostly Seth Rogen, as he certainly shined on his role on the television show. He played Ken, a freak as the show would call him, who was a pot-smoking drummer who just wanted to have a good time. Sure, not much has changed since this early role but this character is what makes Seth Rogen recognizable. Marijuana and Seth Rogen work very well together, and this relationship is comparable to the bond he has with his long time writing partner.
Evan Goldberg
Evan Goldberg has worked with Seth Rogen since 2007 in his short with Jay Baruchel all the way until the up-and-coming animated comedy called Sausage Party. Evan wrote Superbad, Pineapple Express, The Green Hornet, and This is The End. The dynamic duo, as I would call them, of Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen truly makes a force to be reckoned with as their comedy is hysterical and reaches out to the targeted audiences.
A Trip to Congress
We all know Seth for his very unique talents in comedy and his ability to capture an audience with his ridiculousness and his raunchiness. It is a very rare occasion, however, when we see the Canadian comedian leave the comedy behind to do something very serious and touching. Seth Rogen’s mother-in-law is unfortunately plagued with Alzheimer’s and instead of going on his own way to find support and care for someone important to him, he decided to go above and beyond. When doing his research for care he discovered there was nearly nothing anyone could do if they did not have the financial means to do so. This is a sad, but very true fact and Seth Rogen, as the mensch he is, decided to create a charity with his buddies to support Alzheimer’s research called Hilarity for Charity.
50/50
Has anyone seen this unexpected gem starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (JGL) and Seth Rogen? It is a movie about JGL who has been diagnosed with cancer and how he deals with the news and devastation with his friend Seth Rogen. How did Seth even come across this role? Screenwriter Will Reiser – friend of Seth Rogen – was diagnosed with cancer. It is the story of how these two friends coped with one of them being diagnosed with cancer. Actions and roles like these take Seth Rogen away from the typecasting people have labelled him and bring him into a brighter, more positive light as a wonderful actor and all around wonderful human being.
Not Jonah Hill
They are two different people. Seth Rogen is not Jonah Hill and Jonah Hill is not Seth Rogen. Yes they both starred in Superbad but Seth was the cop, not the desperate kid trying to get laid. He managed to do that and then find himself in some trouble in Knocked Up, which wasn’t superbad, and actually surprisingly great. Yes, they were both in This Is the End but Seth wasn’t possessed by a demon and his best friend, Jay Baruchel, didn’t try to cure him using the Old Testament! Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill are two separate people!
Sausage Party
We have not seen a trailer and we haven’t even received a teaser yet. It’s an animated movie written by Seth and Evan, yes animated, about a sausage who is trying to get back to the grocery store for July 4th after he fell out of a cart. Sure the movie sounds ridiculous, even beyond sanity but there is hope. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg haven’t written anything bad yet, and it doesn’t seem like they will anytime soon. For the commenters out there, I know most people hated Green Hornet but Christoph Waltz, being called Bloodnofsky, and Seth worked better than anyone seriously could have expected. Sure it was beyond ridiculous, but it was absolutely incredibly funny and enjoyable. Sausage Party is definitely a movie I am looking forward to.
Seth Rogen comes back onto screen with Dave Franco and Zac Efron in Neighbors. Opening May 9th, 2014. Trust me, it’s not something you want to miss.
