Pixar Animation Studios’ latest feature Inside Out opens by asking, “Have you ever looked at someone and wondered what is going on inside their head?” and then proceeds to show exactly what goes on inside an 11-year-old girl’s head. The highly original gem is an entertaining insider glance at how our core emotions (namely fear, disgust, anger, sadness and joy) control our daily actions, behaviours and, in turn, our memories. Voiced by The Office fan favourite Phyllis Smith, Sadness is the integral fulcrum to adolescent Riley’s mental development. We were incredibly lucky to speak with the gracious and thoughtful Ms. Smith about expressing emotions, life altering moments, and her appreciation of Toronto.
