Summer Movie Preview
It doesn’t matter what your calendar says or what the weather is like outside; come May 3rd, summer begins. Iron Man 3, the fourth movie featuring Robert Downey Jr. as a rich narcissist (stretch?) who dons a metal suit to fight against crazy costumed evildoers, begins a summer movie season filled with the usual array of big stars, sequels, and reboots.
And it should be something to get excited about, because why not?
Superheroes are once again the biggest attraction, including a sequel whose original was a refreshing twist, almost a subversion of the genre. Johnny Depp, who in fact does not play the titular character in his film, still gets top billing and wears make up (surprise!). Will Smith and M. Night Shyamalan have a sci-fi film (hold your breath), while Matt Damon looks pretty awesome in Elysium. There is also (another) terrorists-take-White-House-One-Man-Saves-the-Day film.
It doesn’t seem to be to the most original summer, but which ones are? There will be grand spectacles, booming scores, and lots of endings that allow, of course, for more sequels. But it’s summer, so we’re going to have some fun, hopefully.
With that, I present to you our summer movie preview. As always, while films may disappoint, there is no reason to hold back in your excitement while watching the previews. Enjoy some trailers and remember this moment as the time you got excited for film.
Note: There are a few omissions. The Conjuring is not included as I think everyone should go into horror films blind – the trailers always show too much. I also left out Grown Ups 2 and Smurfs 2 because, well…
