New trailer drops for 'Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter'
A new trailer has finally dropped for this summer’s horror-action flick ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’, and while it isn’t very long, it gives audiences a good idea of what they can expect from the film: namely, lots of ax-swinging!
The movie is based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith (who also co-wrote the screenplay), and is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (‘Wanted’). It stars Benjamin Walker in the titular role as the 18th President of the United States, who embarks on a personal mission to eliminate the vampire species. Also on board are producer Tim Burton and a host of talented supporting actors, including Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk, Rufus Sewell, Anthony Mackie, and Marton Csokas.
The trailer is just over a minute long, but since it’s only the first trailer, we’ll probably see another, longer one as we get closer to summer. It has a very dark tone—typical of Bekmambetov’s work—and it looks like it’s action-packed, with plenty of showdowns between an ax-wielding Lincoln and the vampires.
It’s going to be interesting to see what approach the Russian-Kazakh Bekmambetov will bring to the film. After all, before North America knew him for directing Angelina Jolie in ‘Wanted’, he was impressing international audiences with the twin vampire flicks ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch’. Those films were themselves adaptations of novels by Russian author Sergei Lukyanenko, so Bekmambetov certainly has experiences translating dark supernatural stories for the big screen.
Burton, likewise, has plenty of experience with the weird and otherworldly, and he has experience with vampires, too: he’s currently working on the big-screen remake of ‘Dark Shadows’, starring Johnny Depp and co-written by—surprise!–Seth Grahame-Smith. Small world!
‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ opens in theatres on June 22, 2012. The film is not yet rated.
