5 reasons to pick up Season 5 of Game of Thrones
Season 5 of Game of Thrones hits Blu-Ray and DVD on March 15th, and this past year was the most interesting season of GoT, which picks up Season 6 on April 24th on HBO Canada.
In many ways, the show is completely its own entity from the books by George R.R. Martin. Here are five reasons to buy Season 5 of Game of Thrones on Blu- Ray/DVD.
1. Hardhome: This was the best episode of the season, because it captured the essence of television euphoria. Namely, devoting an entire episode to one location and featuring a battle of Whitewalkers and Wildlings, along with a giant (!),makes for one supremely entertaining episode of television. Bonus: the ice giant scenes can be watched over and over again.
2. Drogon: The Blu-Ray/DVD kit we were very lucky to have been sent to us featured a Funko version of the scariest of Khaleesi’s three dragons quite prominently, (including graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate with the expectation that Drogon will be bringing the heat). Interestingly, Drogon isn’t actually featured very much as a part of season 5, but then suddenly in a later episode Dance of Dragons…well, we won’t spoil it, but needless to say, Drogon is no longer chained to a wall.
3. The Dance of Dragons: The Game of Thrones Season 5 Blu-Ray/DVD includes an incredible twenty minute animated featurette chronicling The Dance of Dragons (essentially, a history of the Targaryens, expressly hinted at by the princess Shireen). As an extra incentive, the feature is narrated by Pedro Pascal, who was last seen being crunched to bits as Oberyn Martell by The Mountain.
4. The Mountain: (or whatever is left of him after being decimated in the fight against Martell) is one of the final characters introduced during the season. Though the creature is not given a proper name, (and is hinted at as being a Franken-creature resuscitated by Qyburn), the Franken-mountain provides comfort to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) after a scary walk of shame demanded upon her by the Faith of the Seven. The entire sequence is chronicled in a detailed Behind The Scenes feature.
5. Jon Snow: Of course, it comes down to this: whether or not Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is alive after being stabbed by his own men at the close of Mother’s Mercy, the same finale that featured Cersei’s walk of shame. While it still up in the air as to whether Jon Snow returns or not, a deleted scene helps to provide a startling bit of clarity to the situation.
