Cineplex is continuing its expansion of the VIP movie experience with the new Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Eglinton and VIP theatre. Earlier this week, we were invited to a sneak peek of the new for a holiday event which conveniently doubled as a theatre unveiling.

The new venue has added about 13,000 square feet and three VIP auditoriums to the former SilverCity Yonge-Eglinton Cinemas.

Besides the massive addition of space, the VIP area is really smartly designed and boasts amazing views of the Yonge-Eglinton neighbourhood. The views of the city add to the VIP atmosphere and will surely make your pre-movie cocktail, meal, or dessert feel that much more exclusive.

The new lounge and dining area is about what you would expect from other VIP theatres, but with a more refined layout and even swankier bar.

For the sneak peek, there was also a crowd-pleasing photo backdrop with props because, is it a really a party without an opportunity to dress-up and take pictures with your friends?

The in-seat menu, set for this event, was a sample of what the full menu will look like, and featured both classic movie snacks and more refined fare. There’s no need to limit yourself to popcorn when ceviche and churros can be brought right to you in your glorious reclinable seat.

The seats themselves are lovely, as expected, with retractable armrest, plenty of legroom, and an arrangement that allows for a great view from every chair.

Now that Cineplex has introduced and developed the VIP concept into several theatres in the GTA, we were curious to know how far Cineplex planned to further expand the VIP experience. Luckily, Vice President of Communications and Investor Relations at Cineplex, Pat Marshall was on hand to share some insight on the success of VIP theatres.

As Pat explained, “This is our 15th VIP Cinema in the country and our 5th in Toronto and what we’ve come to learn is that our original plan of 8-10 VIP Cinemas across the country was not exactly accurate. People have embraced the concept so much that we’ve really had to expand our rollout.”

Not surprisingly, movies, reclinable seats, delicious snacks, and a new theatre, make for a super enjoyable movie-going experience.
