Synopsis:
evon Helm, one of the founding members of The Band, passed away in April 2012. His voice and musical talent were driving forces behind the musical group that Rolling Stone Magazine named one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Helm had battled throat cancer since 1998 and lost the use of his voice as a result of his illness. Years later his cancer went into remission allowing him to once again sing and perform. Jacob Hatley’s Ain’t In It For My Health, documents Helm during his recovery as he plays, performs and ruminates in his home studio in Woodstock, New York, producing his first album (Grammy Award-winning Dirt Farmer) in 25 years. It’s a rare insider’s journey into the final years of a musical genius. Also catch Helm in Scorsese’s classic concert film about The Band, The Last Waltz, screening this month.
