Blu-Ray Review: The Drop

Now available on Blu-Ray and DVD, The Drop is a thriller from the mind of Dennis Lehane, the man who brought us such stories as Mystic River and Shutter Island. James Gandolfini’s last film role has him in a similar place as his cherished Tony Soprano-here he and Tom Hardy star as bartender’s whose company is actually a cover to funnel money to local gangsters. Thrilling, compelling, and memorable, The Drop is a movie that you’ll want to watch more than once.

On the Blu-Ray you will find many special features that are well worth your while. Audio commentary by director Michael R. Roskam and writer Dennis Lehane sheds further light on the film. There are deleted scenes, three featurettes, a character profile on James Gandolfini, and even a feature about Tom Hardy’s cute dog, Rocco.

As this is the last film for legendary actor James Gandolfini, it holds a special place in the hearts of his fans. With a cast that includes Noomi Rapace, John Ortiz and Matthias Schoenaerts, The Drop is outstandingly performed. A crime story that will get your heart pounding and that is a refreshing take on a conventional story, thanks to the people who made it, The Drop is a stand-out film from 2014.
