Synopsis:
Sunset Song, the latest film by acclaimed British director Terence Davies (The Deep Blue Sea, The House of Mirth), is a poetic film adaptation of Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s classic Scottish novel of the same title. It features a central performance by Agyness Deyn (Pusher) that The New York Times calls luminous. She portrays the central role of heroine Chris Guthrie as she comes of age in rural Scotland, with the conflicts and choices a young woman experiences reflecting the struggle between tradition and change. During the early twentieth century, Guthrie struggles to endure battling themes of love, hope and tragedy in her life, touched by the turmoil of WWI. Her journey is captured by breathtaking cinematography of the surrounding landscape, as described by Deborah Young of The Hollywood Reporter.
