HITHCOCK MASTER CLASSES WITH GUILLERMO DEL TORO Well of course the big news is that Guillermo Del Toro will be returning to TIFF Bell Lightbox to present four Hitchcock classics over four nights, offering a one hour introduction and a one hour post screening discussion for each film. Catch Notorious, Frenzy, Shadow of a Doubt and North By Northwest on the big screen with the auteur May 7-8 and 15-16. You can find more information here.

BOOKS ON FILM For you literary types, Louise Dennys head of Knopf Canada, Random House Canada and Vintage Canada, looks at Carol Reed and Graham Greene’s legendary 1949 thriller The Third Man. The discussion and screening takes place May 14.

FOOD ON FILM For the Foodies, you’ll want to circle your calendar for May 15th when Montreal chef Chuck Hughes discusses Roland Joffé’s biographical drama Vatel, starring Gérard Depardieu and Uma Thurman, co-presented with Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants and Food Network Canada.

STUDENT FILM SHOWCASE Anybody out there with they’re the next Jason Reitman or Xavier Dolan? On May 22, TIFF celebrates the end of the school year with it’s annual spotlight on the best new short films by post-secondary students from across the country. Giving Canada’s emerging young filmmakers a chance to show their work and participate in career-building workshops and panel discussion with industry professionals.
