“The purest form of movie making…really, it’s about the images. You don’t need dialogue.”
- Michel Hazanavicius, director of The Artist
At least that’s what the Toronto Silent Film Festival is hoping. Now in it’s 3rd year, TSFF brings the best of the world’s silent cinema to the big screen at multiple venues across Toronto. This year they’ll be presenting 5 features, 11 pre-feature shorts and the acclaimed Comedy Masters’ Shorts Program. A few titles include Blood and Sand, Tabu: A Tale of the South Seas and Our Dancing Daughters, the film that catapulted Joan Crawford into a four decade career!
TSFF presents their films with music, improvised and played live by local artists such as Andrei Srteliaev, Bil O’Meara and the Toronto Theatre Organ Society. Timeless meets modern in this unique “LIVE CINEMA” experience.
TSFF will also be presenting modern silents in their opening and closing night programs. Including the best of 1 minute shorts from TUFF (the Toronto Urban Film Festival) And a special closing night screening of The Force that Through the green Fire Fuels the Flower, an acclaimed modern silent from Finnish director Otto Kymala, has just been added.
Sit back and prepare to be entertained by the likes of Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy and Charlie Chaplin!
