The animated family film ‘The Croods’ debuted higher than expected this weekend, raking in $44.7 million to land in first place. That’s slightly higher than the three-day total for another notable Dreamworks hit, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, which raked in $43.7 million over the same time frame. The film is poised to have a good run going into Easter week and especially considering that there’s a lack of similar family-targeted films rolling out over the next couple of weeks.
Two new releases couldn’t unseat ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ from the top of the box office chart this weekend. ‘Oz’ pulled in an impressive $42.2 million on its second weekend out and has now topped the $145 million mark at the domestic box office.
