Blu-ray Review: Guardians of the Galaxy

Has holiday shopping got you feeling down? How about a gift for yourself for once? Just in time for the holidays, Disney Canada has released the Blu-ray of their summer blockbuster, director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

A winning combination of Spaceballs meets The Avengers, Guardians centers upon human Peter “Star Lord” Quill (Chris Pratt, of TV’s Parks and Recreation and Everwood) who begrudgingly joins forces with the eclectic, ragtag team of aliens Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Drax (played by Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista, respectively) in order to reclaim a mysteriously powerful stone and wrangle with their nefarious foes.

One of the reasons why adaptation of a little-known Marvel comic series, Guardians of the Galaxy, became the break-out theatrical hit of the summer was its catchy soundtrack. With ’70’s hits that included Blue Swede’s Hooked on a Feeling, The Jackson 5’s I Want you Back, and David Bowie’s Moonage Daydream, the label “Awesome Mix Vol. 1” was perfectly fitting. We guarantee that the exceptional sound quality on the Blu-ray disc will have you dancing to the songs, (á la Groot), in no time.

The Blu-ray disc is also chock full of special features, and our personal favorite was the two minute behind the scenes footage from the upcoming The Avengers 2.
